Tonight I played in a concert -- we played the last movement to the Mendelssohn String Octet and it was FAST. It reminds me what you go through each day, working together, making music and trying as a team. I got to share a stand with a violist that I went to school with 10 years ago and she was great!! (she made my mistakes vanish) -- The bottom line is I am thankful for all your hard work in music!
We have a short week -- new seating charts in Intermediate Orchestra and new music in all classes.

Open Strings, 3:30-4pm Informance in B-1.
Dear Intermediate and Advanced Music Families,
We inadvertently scheduled our Fall Concert on Yom Kippur (Friday, September 29). It was not our intention for this concert to conflict with a religious holiday.
We have been working with our administration and will reschedule the concert for Monday, October 2.
We understand this is very short notice for a concert switch and all absences will be considered excused, but we do ask if a student is unable to attend, please fill out the concert excuse form and have students schedule a makeup performance with their music teacher.
The Open Classes will still have their “Informance” on Friday, September 29 from 3:30-4pmas Yom Kippur begins at sundown.
Thank you for your time and understanding. We hope to see you on Monday, October 2 for our first concert of the year — our Fall Concert!
All concerts will be in the MPR
All kids should wear their Fisher Music Shirt
5:30-6:30pm- Intermediate Orchestra, Concert Band, Treble Choir
7:00-8:00pm- Advanced Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Mixed Choir
Jenny, Lauren & Kate
The next play test is due September 27 and all students will submit through Charms.
Log on to Charms (students, ask your parents for the password, if you forgot or cannot get in or want to change the password I can reset the password to the default)
Click on 'Recording Studio'
Then click on assignments
This is really really cool because each play test you submit through the year will be saved in your Charms account, and you will create a playing portfolio this way (you will be able to look back and listen to your old tests!)

--come in at lunch and I can help you log on with your computer (chromebook)
--if you like, I also have an extra computer you can borrow at lunch (8th graders) to record your test (if you do not have a home instrument).
Just got the best question from a lovely Open Strings Student.
Questions was: How much should I be practicing and what will be on our first concert?
Answer: Each student will practice a different amount. You need to play as much as you need to to keep up in class. For some kids that will be 30 minutes a day and for other is will be 20 minutes every other day. It just depends. If you see you play test scores slipping, then practice more.
